Private equity major Bain Capital has acquired Australia’s childcare provider Little Learning School through its subsidiary, Only About Children.
Little Learning School operates 20 childcare centres across New South Wales, while Only About Learning runs 44 campuses across Melbourne and Sydney.
According to a report by The Australian Financial Review, the deal is believed to worth A$150 million ($115 million).
MinterEllison acted as an advisor to Bain Capital and Only About Children.
“…[the acquisition] presents new opportunities for Only About Children to bring its trademark quality and holistic approach to childcare to more children in the region,” MinterEllison said in an announcement.
The private equity firm had entered into the Australian childcare sector via its acquisition of early learning business Only About Children back in 2016.
In the same year, Bain Capital had also struck a deal to acquire Camp Australia, a provider of before- and after-hours care in schools throughout Australia.
Last month, Australian PE and property investor Blue Sky, through its investment arm Blue Sky Alternative Access Fund, had exited its investment in another childcare centre operator, Foundation Early Learning, to UK-based Busy Bee, a childcare provider backed by Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan and Singapore’s Temasek.
The exit was said to be carried out at a discount of up to 23 per cent to carrying value.
Bain Capital is a private multi-asset alternative investment firm with over $95 billion in assets under management.
