KeepHealthCare.ORG – DOJ files petition to send ‘Halloween Killer’ to mental health facility
Gerald Turner Jr. (Wisconsin Dept. of Corrections)
FOND DU LAC (WLUK) — The Wisconsin Department of Justice has filed a petition to keep a convicted sexual predator and murderer from being released next week.
Gerald M. Turner Jr. is set to be released Feb. 1.
Turner was convicted for the murder of 9-year-old Lisa Ann French of Fond du Lac on Halloween night 1973.
The girl’s body was found a few days later in a garbage bag in a field. An autopsy showed she died from shock from being sexually assaulted.
After serving 17 years in prison for a 38-year sentence, Turner was released from prison in 1992 but returned to prison that same year following a court decision challenging calculation of time served.
Turner was again released on parole in 1998 but returned to prison in 2003 after pornographic images were found on his computer.
The state department argues Turner is a sexually violent person who is likely to be a repeat offender and wants to have him committed indefinitely to a mental health facility.
Turner will be detained until a probable cause hearing in Fond du Lac County court.
