The Dubbo and wider central west community will have the chance to hear from local breast care nurses and survivors at an upcoming lecture that is open to the public.

The ‘Breast Cancer Uncovered’ is the topic of the next Explorations Series free public lecture at CSU in Dubbo on Thursday, May 24.

The speakers are Ms Donna Falconer, author of My Time and founder of the Pink Angels and Groovy Booby Bus; Mr Graeme Board, OAM; and the Dubbo-based McGrath Foundation Breast Care Nurses, Ms Vanessa Hyland and Ms Margie Collins.

Ahead of the Series, Dubbo McGrath Breast Care Nurse Margie Collins told the Daily Liberal that the event was about raising awareness of breast cancer and the support available to people.

“And it will probably give people a greater awareness of what we do and the areas we cover,” she said.

Ms Collins and Ms Hyland cover 25 towns across the central west, including Cobar, Lighting Ridge, Coolah, Condobolin, Coonamble and Dubbo.

“We want people to know that we’re available to them and what we do,” Ms Hyland said.

Ms Falconer will speak about her own experience and hopes to continue to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Head of Campus at CSU in Dubbo Ms Cathy Maginnis said so many people come to the City for healthcare, so it was important they’ve got support.

“I wanted to give the community the experience of being able to tap into the wonderful group of people.. and listen to what is available, the things being done and how far its progressed,” she said.

“It’s not just for Dubbo its for our rural community, its about engaging that whole community.”

Each panel member will deliver a brief presentation and answer questions from the audience, followed by a light supper.

The free CSU Explorations Series public lecture will be at 6pm on Thursday, May 24, in room 202, building 902, at CSU, Tony McGrane Place, Dubbo.
