Panaji: The directorate of women and child development has called for a meeting of all registered child care institutions in the state to discuss issues pertaining to repatriation/restoration of children from outside the state to their respective families.
“The meeting is being held to streamline the system and ensure that child care institutions registered under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act adhere to the act and rules,” director for women and child development Dipak Desai said.
The issue of registration will also be discussed as it has been found that the institutions, besides accommodating children in need of care and protection, also have private boarding facilities where other children are accommodated, including those from other states.
Data till March shows that there are 67 registered and eight unregistered child care institutions in Goa with a total of 3,788 children of which 679 belong to other states.
