KeepHealthCare.ORG – RRHS opens The Mammography Place | News
RUTHERFORDTON–Rutherford Regional Health System (RRHS) celebrated the grand reopening of The Mammography Place Tuesday night. The new Genius 3D provides a 40 percent greater detection rate for breast cancer, as well as a 20 percent reduction in call back rate over 2D mammography.
Statistically one in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime, and eight out of nine women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease. With early detection the five-year survival rate is almost 100 percent.
3D Mammography finds 20-65 percent more invasive breast cancers than conventional mammograms alone.
The Genius exam is proven to provide better, earlier breast cancer detection compared to 2D alone. Greater accuracy means better breast cancer detection and a reduced chance of additional screenings.
The Genius exam allows doctors to examine breast tissue layer by layer. Instead of viewing all of the complexities of breast tissue in a flat image, as with conventional 2D mammography, fine details are more visible and no longer hidden by the tissue above or below. The exam is accurate for women of all ages, with both dense and non-dense breasts; the exam is also the only mammogram which is FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved as superior for women with dense breasts.
RRHS also provides breast ultrasounds at The Mammography Place. The center has undergone extensive renovations to create a more modern and comfortable environment. To make an appointment, call (828) 286-5380 or for questions call (828) 286-5670.
The Mammography Place is located at 175 Tryon Road in Rutherfordton.
