Sony Insists It’s Not Profiting From Overwatch’s Breast Cancer Mercy Skin

KeepHealthCare.ORG – Sony Insists It’s Not Profiting From Overwatch’s Breast Cancer Mercy Skin

Recently Overwatch released a new Mercy skin, one that has been dubbed ‘Pink Mercy’ by the community. The skin was released in support of the fight against breast cancer, and unlike other skins that are available in the game, you’re able to directly buy this cosmetic for $14.99 on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Sony, however, had some questions to answer.

All seems well on the surface, but a few people noticed that something just didn’t seem right after looking at the description of the skin on the different platforms.

The description of the skin on the Xbox Games Store and the Blizzard store says this:

“From May 8-May 21, Blizzard Entertainment will donate 100 per cent of the purchase price for your purchase of the Pink Mercy skin on Xbox to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Blizzard Entertainment will disclose the total amount of its donation following the end of the campaign.”

The PlayStation Store listing however, seems to convey something rather different.

“”From May 8-May 21 2018, Blizzard Entertainment will donate 100 percent of the proceeds that it receives from Sony PlayStation for your purchase that it receives from PlayStation for your purchase of the Pink Mercy skin to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Blizzard Entertainment will disclose the total amount of its donation following the end of the campaign.”

Naturally, this got more than a few people scratching their heads. If only some of the money was being donated to Breast Cancer Research Foundation by Blizzard, then where was the rest going, and for what reason wasn’t it being donated?

Regardless of the answer, which seems to be leaning towards VAT, the lack of transparency on Sony’s part on where a player’s money will be going is rather disturbing and is enough to put more than a few people on edge.

Game Revolution reached out to Sony to clarify the situation, where a representative of Sony provided us the following statement:

“SIEE does not profit from any sales of the Overwatch Pink Mercy Skin. We have nothing further to add beyond that.”
