KeepHealthCare.ORG – The fight against the next flu season has already begun
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Wisconsin state health officials are already getting ready the coming flu season.
Megan Meller, an infection control practitioner with Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, told News 8 that after each flu season experts look at statistics and how last season’s vaccine worked and try to develop a better one for next year.
Meller said this past last flu season was especially harsh and abnormally long and that experts will, in part, be looking overseas for answers on how to treat the upcoming season.
“They also look at data from Australia since Australia’s flu season occurs months before ours . . . in our summer months, so they can look at that season, look at how well the vaccine held up to the virus,” said Meller.
June had the first week without an incident of the flu reported in the state since July of 2016.
