KeepHealthCare.ORG – UCLA Gymnastics Travels North to Face UC Berkeley

The UCLA gymnastics team has had a stellar season so far, besting its scores at every meet. The #1 Oklahoma Sooners were in Pauley last weekend and the teams combined for a record six Perfect 10s. Christine Peng-Peng Lee (beam), Felicia Hano (floor) and Katelyn Ohashi (floor) brought home the 10s for the Bruins. Hano’s floor exercise, originally performed by All-American Sydney Sawa in 2014, was the first 10 on floor since Sawa did the same on February 22, 2014.

Now, UCLA will face the UC Berkeley Golden Bears this morning. The Bears are also coming off a win and snapped a three-meet losing streak by beating #19 Arizona 195.950-194.425. Toni-Ann Williams, a 2016 Olympic competitor for Jamaica, had four career-high scores and also saw success on the floor, with a season-high score of 9.975.

The Bears took three individual event titles: Arianna Robinson on vault (9.90), Nina Schank on bars (9.85) and Williams on floor (9.95). Cassidy Keelen scored career-highs in both her events, and Arianna Robinson matched season and career-bests in her events and earned her first vault win of the season with a score of 9.90. Berkeley totaled 49.400 on floor, the fourth-highest floor total in program history.

Saturday’s meet is Cal’s annual “Powerful in Pink” meet, dedicated to honor those who have been affected by breast cancer and raise breast cancer awareness.

Go Bruins!
