Breath of Fire gets it’s name from the air surrounding the planet, known as the Breath of God. When you wake up and breathe in, you are taking in the Breath of God. How to make Breath of Fire
Here is a step-by-step description of how to make Breath of Fire:
- Sit with a straight back, place your hands on your knees in the open palm mudra, close your eyes and begin to feel your belly expand with each inhalation and contract with each exhalation.
- The breath of fire is fed by the navel point (solar plexus), and the diaphragm is used to contract the navel on each exhalation and expand it on each inhalation.
- Now that you understand the movements of the diaphragm during breathing, open your mouth and stretch like a dog to understand the pattern of the diaphragm. Once you find the rhythm, close your mouth and breathe through your nostrils. Now you do it!
- Speed up the rhythm of the inhalation and exhalation, but stay in the same rhythm. There is a rapid inhalation and a rapid exhalation without pause in between, at a rate of about 2 to 3 cycles per second.
- Start with exercises of 1 to 3 minutes at a time. When performed correctly, the chest remains relaxed and slightly lifted, the arms, legs, face and abdomen are also relaxed.
