The Alabama Senate has passed a measure that would legalize medical marijuana. The bill, which passed on a vote of 20-10, would limit the number of patients who could qualify for a medical marijuana card to “qualifying patients” with a list of medical conditions that are approved by the Alabama Department of Public Health. The bill will now move on to the House of Representatives.
If you’re a medical marijuana patient in Alabama, you’re in luck. The state has passed a law that allows doctors to recommend use of the plant to treat any illness, as well as the “cannabis oils” derived from it. The measure allows patients to get a prescription from a doctor and a pharmacy to purchase the oil. The state’s health department will have to draw up regulations for the program and will also be responsible for monitoring compliance.
