Below are some things to consider when putting together your personal yoga journal.
Condition before exercise
You’re not the only one who doesn’t want to exercise because you have a bad mood, are in the middle of a 30 Rock marathon, or just don’t feel like exercising. Some days we have to respect this feeling, but usually, if we come in with the feeling (insert pre-practice state here), we come out of Savasana with an extraordinary feeling. Tracking this transformation can be a serious tool to get you on the mat on days when you can’t fully train.
Description
Realizing what you are doing on the mat will help you see the patterns in your energy related to your practice, and it will give you a boost as you reflect on the growth you are experiencing on the mat. You will also be able to better manage the flow of your practice and determine when to retreat or move on to a more restorative or balancing yin practice.
Duration
Some of us are very good at keeping track of the length of the exercise, while others may overlook this element. Ask yourself if tracking your workout time encourages you to get on the mat on days when you don’t have much time, if it reminds you that short periods of time can produce big results, and if the overall effect is positive – if you answer yes, add this section to your workout log.
