This is a review of the “Brutally HONEST” Magic Spoons cereal by General Mills. The cereal is advertised as being “Naturally Delicious, Naturally Whole Grain, Naturally Whole Grain”. It is offered in “original” or “chocolate” flavors. I tried both flavors to see if they were as “Brutally HONEST” in their marketing campaign.

You know how in the big cereal companies, they make the cereal and then put a pretty picture of it on the back of the box? I thought that all this time, I’d been eating this cereal, but I hadn’t realized it was a lie. My name is Treacle and this is my story. I am a spooner.

If you’re like me, then you’re probably looking for ways to save money in your daily routine. From saving money on groceries to making your own deodorant, there are so many ways to save money that it can be hard to keep track of them all. With that being said, I have found a way to save money on my breakfast. Those of you out there that are fans of Magic Spoon Cereal (which is a brand of breakfast cereal that’s a lot easier to eat than Cheerios) will probably recognize this spoon. It’s a spoon that has a spoon with a spoon. I’m not completely sure why they use this spoon, but I’m hoping that. Read more about magic spoon review and let us know what you think.

The keto community is talking about a particular product that is a worthy homage to one of the most cherished childhood breakfast meals of all time. We’re talking about Magic Spoon Cereal, of course.

Six flavors of Magic Spoon Cereal stacked upright and on its sides.

Is this healthy brand as wonderful as it seems, with low-carb macros, irresistible-sounding flavors, and glowing reviews from foodies all over Facebook? To discover out, you’ll have to read this Magic Spoon Cereal review.

Magic Spoon isn’t the only sugar-free cereal on the market, so they’ll have to do more than claim healthier ingredients and good macros to keep consumers coming back. And, as you can see from our Catalina Crunch review, they’re up against some stiff competition!

Is Magic Spoon Cereal on the Keto Diet?

Magic Spoon earns the keto food badge with just 4 grams of net carbohydrates per 1-cup serving. This is somewhat more than the previous version, which had 3 grams of net carbohydrates per serving.

Each serving of Magic Spoon includes, depending on the flavor:

  • between 140 and 170 calories
  • 7-9 gram fat content
  • Protein content: 13-14 g
  • Carbohydrates (total): 10-15 grams
  • Fiber (1-2 grams)
  • There are no sugar grams.

Don’t let the strangely high total carbohydrates discourage you. Allulose, one of our favorite healthy keto sweeteners, accounts for the bulk of them.

GMO-free, Magic Spoon is a wonderful way to get your protein in the morning. Consider it a crunchier (and more delicious) protein shake alternative.

Is Magic Spoon cereal good for you?

We’ve all been caught off guard by a variety of non-keto substances that make you question the macronutrient claims or, worse, knock you out of ketosis. And we’re not talking about blueberries or cinnamon here!

So, how does Magic Spoon do against the competition? Let’s have a look at the most important components.

Blended Milk Protein

The protein mix of Whey Protein Concentrate and Casein is the primary component in Magic Spoon Cereal. These are dairy proteins, and they’re what make this cereal so high in – you guessed it – protein.

Blend of Sweeteners

Monk Fruit and Allulose are two keto-friendly sweeteners used in this sugar-free cereal. You don’t have to worry about them pushing you out of ketosis like sugary cereal since they’re both natural and taste sweet like sugar without affecting your blood sugar.

Originally, Magic Spoon included one additional ingredient: Stevia. While Stevia is completely natural, some people think it has a bitter aftertaste – and if you’ve ever read another Magic Spoon Cereal review, you’ll know this has been a common issue. This issue may have been resolved thanks to the revised mix (and won over a few new Magic Spoon fans, too).

Tapioca Starch is a kind of starch made from tapioca

Tapioca is a high-carbohydrate component used in many gluten-free meals. Fortunately, it’s in such a tiny quantity that it has no effect on the net carb count of this cereal.

Juice made from vegetables

On the keto diet, juice is usually avoided. Why? Because it’s usually simply concentrated sugar with no fiber.

Fortunately, that isn’t the case here. The sweet flavor of Magic Spoon comes from the sweeteners Monk Fruit and Allulose. The Fruity flavor uses just a tiny quantity of vegetable juice to produce those beautiful rainbow hues, so the sugar and net carb level isn’t any greater than the other varieties.

Is Magic Spoon Cereal Appropriate for a Variety of Diets?

Magic Spoon cereals may be appropriate for a ketogenic and even gluten-free diet. What about other diets, though?

It’s not appropriate for a plant-based diet since it’s mostly composed of dairy protein. We suggest Catalina Crunch if you’re looking for a vegan cereal that’s also rich in protein.

If you have a nut allergy, you should avoid the Peanut Butter flavor, which includes both Peanut Flour and Peanut Oil (surprise, surprise). The other three tastes, on the other hand, are nut-free.

Are you avoiding grains? You’ve come to the right place! This cereal has no grains at all. However, if you’re following a paleo diet, you may want to skip this one since it contains dairy, Allulose, and Sunflower Oil, which aren’t paleo-friendly components. Because peanuts are essentially legumes, another non-paleo item, the Peanut Butter flavor would be off-limits as well.

nutrition and diet claims made by a cereal box side panel

Magic Spoon Cereal is available in a variety of flavors.

Magic Spoon Cereal comes in six different flavors:

  • Fruity
  • Peanut butter is a delicious spread.
  • Cocoa
  • Cinnamon
  • Frosted
  • Blueberry

With a few of odd additions like Blueberry, each flavor feels like a distinct sugar-filled cereal that’s typically off the menu for keto. The nutritious cereal is shaped like tiny rings, similar to Fruit Loops.

You can’t go wrong with Cinnamon, Fruity, or Frosted if you’re searching for a fantastic way to start your day. These two live up to the brand’s promise that they have the “same addictive characteristics” as their sweet namesakes, but without the artificial ingredients!

What Is the Taste of Magic Spoon Cereal?

Magic Spoon Cereal may have no artificial ingredients, no sugar, and excellent keto nutritional information, but we all know what matters most: does it taste good?

This healthy brand certainly strikes the point when it comes to recreating the most delicious tastes from our youth. It’s just sweet enough for a morning meal without being too sweet, and the natural flavors closely resemble sugary breakfast cereals such as Fruit Loops, Fruity Pebbles, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Cocoa Pops.

Do you want to order a package of four? Our top four flavors are difficult to choose, but Fruity, Frosted, Cocoa, and Blueberry are all must-tries! The Cocoa flavor is reminiscent to Cocoa Pops.

Aftertaste

Magic Spoon has a harsh aftertaste, according to other reviewers. This is undoubtedly due to Stevia, since excessive doses of this super-sweet natural sweetener may cause a bitter feeling in certain individuals.

Does this ring a bell? Then there’s wonderful news! The recipe has been changed and no longer includes Stevia, as stated previously in this Magic Spoon Cereal review.

Texture

Breakfasting with a bowl of cereal is a distinct sensation. From a bowl of crunch to little sweet sponges for the milk, it’s a meal that changes as you consume it. However, when it comes to healthy substitutes, this is where things may go wrong.

Unlike Catalina Crunch, Magic Spoon Cereal does not compete with Cap’n Crunch. The texture is closer to that of traditional wheat-based cereals, but without the sugary grains. It’ll undoubtedly bring back fond memories for any cereal-obsessed grownups.

The main component of Magic Spoon is dairy protein, which is readily apparent. It’s grain-free, which means each crunch doesn’t last long, and the whey gives it a gritty texture. However, with such little net carbohydrates and sugar, it’s a trade-off we can live with.

Is Magic Spoon Cereal Good for Children?

Adults aren’t the only ones who like Magic Spoon Cereal! This low-carb meal will be a hit with your kids in the morning. The modest yet satisfying serving sizes would be ideal for a healthy breakfast or snack. In fact, it tastes so much like the “genuine thing” that we doubt they’d notice if you replaced their Cinnamon Toast Crunch with it.

Plus, the bright and colorful packaging will fool them into thinking you grabbed Magic Spoon from the cereal aisle among the sugary Frosted Flakes. If you choose the delightful Fruity taste, which is rainbow-colored like Fruit Loops, you’ll get bonus points!

Serving Suggestions to Enhance the Flavor of Magic Spoon Cereal

Even while we believe Magic Spoon is a hit on its own, there are always ways to make it even more tasty and keto-friendly.

Make sure to pick a milk that won’t add extra carbohydrates to your dish. That implies almond or coconut milk, both of which are good for you. Because this cereal has just seven to nine grams of fat per serving, you could even top it with a large dollop of heavy whipping cream.

While Magic Spoon is already rich in protein, adding some yogurt – we prefer Two Good – will boost it even more. If you want to concentrate on adding additional wonderful fats, we also have a fantastic Easy Keto Yogurt recipe that uses coconut cream (and calories).

Don’t forget about the garnishes, too! Choose high-fat bowl toppers like chopped nuts and coconut flakes, or top with a handful of your favorite low-carb fruit like raspberries and strawberries. This will assist to increase the calorie count to a meal-sized quantity, but Magic Spoon’s high protein and fiber content makes one tiny dish very filling.

What is the price of Magic Spoon Cereal?

Magic Spoon is available for purchase on their website, where each box of cereal is sold in a “case” of four boxes. Each box has five servings, resulting in a total of 20 servings from a case of four boxes.

You may buy four boxes of cereal in one flavor, a variety pack containing Frosted, Cocoa, Fruity, and Peanut Butter tastes, or create your own bespoke bundle by selecting four of your faves.

Is Magic Spoon a good investment?

They provide a subscription service where you can have a monthly supply of nutritious cereal delivered directly to your home. This includes a 10% discount off their regular purchase price.

Magic Spoon costs $39 for four boxes, or $9.75 a box or $1.95 per bowl. This price drops to $35.10 per case, $8.877 each box, or $1.76 per bowl if you subscribe.

Magic Spoon also has a “100% satisfaction guarantee,” which means you can receive a refund if you’re not happy – a fantastic reason to check out new tastes like Blueberry!

Our Final Verdict

Magic Spoon is one of the most popular keto cereals on the market. It’s one of the healthiest cereals we’ve come across, with minimal net carbohydrates, high protein, and no artificial additives. It’s also delectable, with tastes like Cinnamon and Blueberry. What’s our opinion? We’ll certainly buy additional boxes in the future!

We were pleasantly pleased by the taste and texture, and despite the tiny serving sizes and calories, it’s still very delicious and full – unlike our childhood’s blink-and-it’s-gone sugary cereal.

Even if you do subscribe, the price tag is still very expensive. That’s why we developed our own Keto Cereal Recipe, which is even higher in protein while still being simple to prepare at home.
